Who is Juanjo?

Juanjo Bona Arregui is a Spanish singer and composer. He was born in Magallón, a town in Zaragoza (Spain) on November 10, 2003. At the age of 18 he won the first edition of Jotalent, a singing competition broadcast on the regional television channel AragónTV. But his rise to fame came a year later, when he became a contestant in Operación Triunfo, the most popular music reality show in Spain. After a showcase of talent and versatility, he won the fourth place. At the same time, the reality aspect of the show let viewers witness a beautiful personal journey, which allowed many to connect with him on a human level and garnered him a very loyal and supportive fanbase. He is a proud advocate of the culture and traditional music of his region, and has expressed interest in including folklore in his music and experimenting without limiting himself to a single musical genre. While he is on a process of artistic self-discovery, he emphasizes the value of lyrics as a vehicle to tell his own stories. His debut single, “Lo que no ves de mí (What you don't see about me)" was released shortly after the end of the program, in March 2024, and performed exceptionally well on Spanish music charts. His second single "Mis Tías" (My Aunties), released on 19 July 2024, is a departure from his previous sound and comes after an intense period of self-discovery which resulted in him fully embracing his roots and folklore. It merges pop with "jota", a traditional music genre that has accompanied Juanjo since he was a child. The lyrics, very descriptive and straight-forward, pay tribute to eight female workers from the student residence where he lived while he attended university in Madrid.
